According to my friends, I am the weird one because I listen to music while I read. They say that it is distracting. I say that I enjoy it and if we are being honest, if I get really into a book I don’t even notice it.
The Penny Dreadful Suite by rldcad1
I started watching Penny Dreadful last Fall and I fell so hard for the music. I do listen to a playlist on Spotify but I just love to smooth composition of this piece.
This list would not be complete without my go to study/reading/general background noise. It also works great background to my laptop for when I don’t want it to go to sleep or when I don’t want to be distracted by other windows. I love the quite woodland noise that has a little bit of magic flare to it. And no have never played Skyrim but I desperately want to!
The Hours by Philip Glass
This is my all time favorite album! I seriously could listen to it for the rest of my life and I don’t think that I would hate it by the end. Glass’s composition flows beautifully between each song so there aren’t any awkward disruptions that take you out of whatever you are focused on.
Under Giant Trees by Agnes Obel
I do occasionally put this on repeat on just listen to it for a few hours while I am reading or studying. It reminds me of an old-timey merry-go-round song but it is in an enchanted forest. Yes, I completely understand that that is weird but guess what I LOVE IT!
Palladio by Escala
Fun Fact: I played this so much in high school when I would write my essays (and I mean I would play it on repeat for about 6-8 hours nonstop) that my dad hates this song. But I still love it. I desperately want to learn how to ballroom/salsa dance so I can dance to it all dramatically and not look like a fool.
Narcissus and Echo by llan Eshkeri
This was a ballet composed by Eshkeri (who also composed the Stardust score) and I just loved the music but then it got like wiped off the internet. I almost thought that I had dream about it except for the fact that it still has an album page on Spotify so I hope one day it will return and I will be able to enjoy it once again. I would be lying if I didn’t say that I was including purely to tell the Universe that I want it back!
Journey by Austin Wintory
If you haven’t noticed a theme here, I love cellos and magical sounding music.
Prince Caspian by Harry Gregson-Williams
I do love all three of the Narnia scores that Gregson-Williams did but Prince Caspian is my favorite for some reason. I honestly don’t understand it either.
Gone by Min Kym
This has been my recent classical music obsession. I highly recommend checking out Symphonie Espagnole in D Minor, Op. 21: V. Rondo.
And no music list of mine would be complete without my favorite song of all, Aria by Bach.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme by The Broke and The Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
