OwlCrate March 2019 “Murder & Mayhem” Unboxing & Review

Hello! I figured that since the April boxes are going to be shipping soon I should probably review the March box!

This candle from In The Wick of Time was in a set of three different candles that you could have gotten. I got Malachai and it smells like Pomegranates.

Never Flinch. Never Fear. Never Forget.

This awesome Nevernight travel mug was designed by Catarina Books Designs. I love the watercolor look but I am kind of disappointed that the cup sleeve covers the quote. Also, I thought that I would hate using this mug for travel because it is ceramic but it is not that bad!

“When the snow falls and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.”

I have a bit of obsession with bookmarks and I love this woodmark by Ink and Wonder. It is perfect for a Game of Thrones re-read!

“I want my revenge… And then I want my crown.”

I am so glad to see Three Dark Crowns getting some swag love! Though I don’t really care for the design on the sticker; it seems very cutesy for such a dark book. Art by Jamila Mehio.

This is super cute and I love using it! There is a little pocket at the top that I put my keys and chapstick in and the fabric is a nice canvas. It is definitely more durable than the sling bag that they included in the July 2017 box which was falling apart after it’s third use. This sling bag was designed by Michelle Grey.

This month’s pin was inspired by this month’s book, Four Dead Queens. It is a compass with each of the four quadrants and the spinner on it actually works!

And well I already spoiled the book but the book is:

Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte

I received an arc for this last year and I was really disappointed in the book. I didn’t care for the romance or the main character through the villain was awesome and I loved how Scholte did the murders.

Synopsis from GoodReads:

Seventeen-year-old Keralie Corrington may seem harmless, but she’s, in fact, one of Quadara’s most skilled thieves and a liar. Varin, on the other hand, is an honest, upstanding citizen of Quadara’s most enlightened region, Eonia. He runs afoul of Keralie when she steals a package from him, putting his life in danger. When Varin attempts to retrieve the package, he and Keralie both find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that leaves all four of Quadara’s queens dead.

With no other choices and on the run from Keralie’s former employer, the two decide to join forces, endeavoring to discover who has killed the queens and save their own lives in the process. When their reluctant partnership blooms into a tenuous romance, they must overcome their own dark secrets in hopes of a future together that seemed impossible just days before. But first they have to stay alive and untangle the secrets behind the nation’s four dead queens.

And that’s wrap!

I really enjoyed this box! I found the mug and the bag to be super useful. As for the book, I am bummed that I didn’t enjoy it more but I do love the cover.

OwlCrate is $29.99 plus shipping. You can check them out on their website! This post was not paid for or affiliated with OwlCrate.

April’s Theme is

The Dark Side!

There will be items from Throne of Glass, GrishaVerse, and Vicious! There will be a scarf designed by Bookmark’d Tattoos, Six of Crow Socks from Out of Print, and the pin is designed by Hey Atlas!

Wicked Saints

Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan

If you have not heard of this book then a) you don’t spend much time in the YA Book Community or b) you live under a rock. And yes it is just as good as everyone says it is! I am really excited to see what the OC cover looks like. I love the cover but I hate the spine.  It has a picture of the main character, Nadya, and it just is not appealing to me.

Synopsis from GoodReads:

A girl who can speak to gods must save her people without destroying herself.

A prince in danger must decide who to trust.

A boy with a monstrous secret waits in the wings.

Together, they must assassinate the king and stop the war.

In a centuries-long war where beauty and brutality meet, their three paths entwine in a shadowy world of spilled blood and mysterious saints, where a forbidden romance threatens to tip the scales between dark and light.

  1. I’m materialistically live my literary life through these Owlcrate posts, Anna. Also I suppose I should dig myself out from under that rock and read Wicked Saints since you loved it so much!
